In a relief for officials, five suspected cases of coronavirus, who were admitted to the isolation ward at Rajiv Gandhi Chest Diseases Institute in Bengaluru earlier this week, have tested negative for the disease. “We were awaiting the test results of two individuals who were in isolation and I’m glad to announce that they have both returned negative for the virus,” according to a doctor from the hospital. The two who had been in isolation returned to India recently from Saudi Arabia and Japan respectively. The first two samples to return negative were that of two individuals who were suspected to have contracted the disease. Shortly thereafter, an Iranian national who had traveled to Bengaluru was also admitted to the hospital with symptoms. However his report too returned negative for the coronavirus. Earlier this week, a Hyderabad-based techie was found to be positive for the virus, shortly it was found that he had recently traveled from Dubai to Bengaluru before returning to his home in Hyderabad. The 24-year-old man is undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Hyderabad. In the meantime, health officials from Karnataka began using contact tracing methods to track down those who had possibly been in touch with the infected man. Those found to have been in touch with him were either placed under home quarantine or instructed to follow other measures as deemed necessary. As of Thursday, there are 29 positive cases in India. Telangana and Delhi have each reported one case, both of which are stable. There are six individuals in Agra plus 14 Italians tourists and their Indian driver who have all tested positive for coronavirus disease. An Italian tourist and his wife who are in Jaipur have also been confirmed to have contracted the infection. An employee of PayTM based in Delhi was also found to be positive on Wednesday. While there were three positive cases reported from the state of Kerala earlier, all of them have made a full recovery and have been sent home. On Thursday, state Health Minister KK Shylaja announced that the three people were now allowed to freely move around.

BJP’s Janardhan Reddy was also present and seen with the couple. The pre-muhurat events began on Wednesday night and arrangements were made for over a lakh guests. Last night’s events saw were also quite lavish with a literal carpet of flowers arranged to welcome the guests into the venue. Those close to Sriramulu sought to play down suggestions that the wedding will be one of the costliest in Karnataka's history along the lines of the lavish wedding hosted by mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy in 2016 when his daughter Brahmani got married. "The budget is not close to Rs 500 crore as reported in some sections of the media. This is a traditional wedding ceremony and we have made arrangements for a large number of visitors," a person who works with Sriramulu told TNM. A source close to Sriramulu, however, confirmed that the wedding is expected to be a multi-crore affair.   Costume designer Saniya Sardharia, who is the official stylist of Kannada actors Yash and Radhika Pandit, and make-up artists involved in Deepika Padukone's wedding have been roped in by Sriramulu for the wedding. Two separate sets were erected at Palace Grounds in Bengaluru. One of the planned sets is based on Hampi's Virupaksha temple, a source close to Sriramulu said. 200 people were deployed for decorating the set with flowers. On Wednesday night, festivities including the vara pooja and the pre-muhurat events took place. Sriramulu and his long-time friend Janardhana Reddy were both present at the event. The haldi programme was held on March 1 and the mehendi programme was held on March 3. It has been a busy week for Sriramulu, who is juggling his duties at wedding ceremonies with meetings with health officials in the state after a techie from Hyderabad working in Bengaluru tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday. On Wednesday after news emerged that two coworkers of the Hyderabad techie working in Bengaluru had tested negative for the virus, Sriramulu handed over duties of addressing the press conference over the issue to Dr. Sudhakar, the Medical Education Minister.  Dignitaries from Karnataka's political and film circles are expected to gather at the lavish ceremony to be hosted on Thursday.

Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal’s wife files dowry harassment case against him

Crime
Four persons have been named in the FIR - Sachin Bansal, his father Satprakash Aggarwal, mother Kiran Bansal and brother Nitin Bansal.
A dowry harassment case has been filed against Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal by his wife Priya in Bengaluru’s Koramangala police station. Four persons have been named in the FIR registered - Sachin Bansal, his father Satprakash Aggarwal, mother Kiran Bansal and brother Nitin Bansal.  The couple got married in 2008 and in her complaint Priya  alleges that the dowry harassment began prior to their wedding. In her complaint to the police on February 28, 35-year-old Priya alleged that her father had spent over Rs 50 lakh for their wedding and had given Sachin Rs 11 lakh in cash. However, from court records it seems that Kiran Bansal had filed a case against her daughter-in-law a few weeks prior to this. The nature of that case remains unclear. Priya, a dentist by profession, alleges that Sachin physically assaulted her and demanded money. In October last year, Sachin allegedly physically assaulted her after demanding that the properties they owned jointly must be signed over to him. She also alleged that when Sachin had been to Delhi, he sexually harassed her sister as well. Priya further alleged that when she refused to transfer the properties to Sachin, his parents and his brother also harassed her. She has alleged that he harassed her in 2019 as well. An FIR has been filed under two sections of the Indian Penal Code- 498A (dowry harassment), 34 (criminal intent) and and under section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Sachin Bansal meanwhile has applied for bail on February 29 and the order on his plea will be delivered on Thursday. Sachin Bansal, who exited Flipkart during its acquisition in 2018 by Walmart netted $1 billion by selling his stake. After his exit from Flipkart, he has been betting on digital banking through Navi Technologies, which he started in December 2018 as BAC Acquisitions with Ankit Agarwal by investing $450 million into Navi. Sachin has also invested in several startups including $100 million in Ola. His other investments include electric scooter startup Ather, InShorts, Grey Orange, Unacademy, among others. TNM has reached out to Sachin Bansal. The copy will be updated when he responds.

Yediyurappa to present Karnataka budget on Thursday

Karnataka Budget
Yediyurappa will allot funds to resume the Kalasa-Banduri project to supply drinking water to the four-drought prone districts in the state's north-west region.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will present the budget for fiscal 2020-21 in the Assembly on Thursday, an official said on Wednesday. "Yediyurappa, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget for fiscal 2020-21 on Thursday. It will be his 7th budget and fifth as Chief Minister," the official said. Though Yediyurappa assumed office again on July 26, 2019, he was compelled to re-present the budget for fiscal 2019-20 after JD-S-Congress coalition government collapsed on July 23 as its Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy lost the trust vote in the Assembly. "As the assembly had to pass the budget by July 30, with Kumaraswamy presenting a vote-on-account in February 2019, Yediyurappa did not have time to make major changes in the budgetary proposals for this fiscal," the Finance Department official told IANS. The budget could have some of the promises the ruling party made in its manifesto ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections. "The thrust of the budget will be on agriculture, irrigation, infrastructure, energy, education, health and development of Bengaluru and other cities to accelerate uniform growth," the official said. With the Central government notifying the Mahadayi inter-state water tribunal award on February 27 following the Supreme Court's directive on February 20, Yediyurappa will allot funds to resume the Kalasa-Banduri project to supply drinking water to the four-drought prone districts in the state's north-west region. "As revenue collection is expected to fall short of the budget estimates for this fiscal (2019-20) due to economic slowdown and reduction in transfer of central funds to the state as part of its share from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, Yediyurappa faces a daunting task in mobilising resources to fund his government's ambitious projects and schemes," a political analyst stated..
