Jyotiraditya Scindia to join BJP? Massive speculation as 17 MLAs reach Bengaluru

Politics
This development also comes amid speculation that Jyotiraditya Scindia is planning to leave the Congress and join the BJP and take some of the MLAs with him.
The Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh found itself in crisis after 17 of its MLAs, who are believed to be supporters of Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, were flown to Karnataka. Several legislators, including ministers from the state, arrived in Bengaluru on Monday amid reports of infighting in the party's state unit and allegations of poaching against the BJP.  The MLAs landed in the city earlier in the day by chartered flights and are staying across three locations in the city, a source said. The chartered flight left from Delhi at 8 am and reached Bengaluru around 10:40 am. This development also comes amid speculation that Jyotiraditya Scindia is planning to leave the Congress and join the BJP and take some of the MLAs with him. Senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and at least 17 MLAs, believed to be supporting him, had suddenly become 'incommunicado' on Monday ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Apart from the two close Scindia associates, the others included Rajyawardhan Singh, Pradhuman Singh Tomar, Giriraj, Raksha Sinoriya, Jaswant Jatav, Suresh Dhakad, Jajpal Singh and Brijendra Yadav. The Kamal Nath faction of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh has been in a power tussle with a many MLAs supporting the young leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was once a close aide of the Gandhis. The Congress has alleged that the BJP is trying to poach its MLAs to topple the Kamal Nath-led government.  Earlier on March 4, amid allegations of poaching against BJP, around three to four legislators from Madhya Pradesh had landed in the city and were put up in a private place. One of them was said to be an independent MLA. The BJP in Madhya Pradesh has maintained that the party had nothing to do with the developments. Kamal Nath has asserted there was no threat to his government, which came to power in December 2018 by ousting the BJP.   Last week, 10 MLAs had gone 'missing' but eight of them have returned to the state, the latest being Congress' Bisahu Lal Singh, who met Kamal Nath in Bhopal on Sunday, after returning from Bengaluru. Two MLAs, Raghuraj Singh Kansana and Hardeep Singh Dang, have still not been traced. Dang had sent his resignation to the Speaker and Kamal Nath. Meanwhile, three rebel BJP MLAs met Chief Minister Kamal Nath late on Thursday as two of them have openly revolted but the third one, Sanjay Tripathi, has said he is not leaving the BJP.

Seven cholera cases reported in Bengaluru: Here’s how to keep yourself safe

Health
A total of 80 gastroenteritis cases have been confirmed in the city since March 1, with 7 people having contracted cholera till date.

Even as Karnataka state officials remain vigilant to tackle any potential spread of the coronavirus, another public health issue has reared its head in Bengaluru. A total of 80 gastroenteritis cases have been confirmed in the city since March 1, with 17 people having contracted cholera. This has led to speculations that this may cause an outbreak of the disease. Here is what you need to know about cholera and what you can do to keep yourself safe. Gastroenteritis is a common ailment that refers to an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. It also encompasses what is more colloquially called ‘food poisoning’. While gastroenteritis is a symptom of an infection, cholera is the cause of an infection. On the other hand, cholera is a disease caused by a bacteria called Vibrio cholerae, which can cause gastroenteritis. Infected individuals suffer from acute diarrhoea, which can cause severe dehydration within a matter of hours. In addition to loose stools, fever, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain can also be present. The disease can occur as an endemic in areas prone to the disease or can occur as a sudden epidemic. Food and water contamination has been found to be the manner in which the infection spreads. Now that there are 17 confirmed cases and several others awaiting test results, what can you do to make sure that you and your loved ones stay safe? “Most stomach bugs spread via contaminated food or water, this includes cholera bacteria. It causes an upset stomach and loose stools, vomiting, nausea and possibly fever,” Dr BG Prakash, nodal officer of National Vector Borne Borne Disease Control Programme, told TNM. Officials urge people to wash their hands frequently, especially before eating and after using the restroom. Those who live in endemic areas should boil water prior to drinking it or using it for cooking. A cholera vaccine is available, and doctors recommend that younger children who are prone to developing infections should take it as a precaution. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), cholera endemic countries are the ones which see sporadic cases or even seasonal cases, where there is no evidence of the disease arriving from outside the specific region. On the other hand, an outbreak of cholera can occur in endemic countries or in those countries where cholera is not usually seen. With cases of #Cholera and gastrointestinal infections being reported from various parts of #Bengaluru, #BBMP is taking all steps possible including testing of the water samples of affected areas and spreading door to door awareness.
