Rockline Sudhakar
Sandalwood actor Rockline Sudhakar died on Wednesday due to a cardiac arrest. Known for his roles as a comedian, villain and father figure, Rockline Sudhakar was filming for Kannada flick Sugarless on Wednesday when he collapsed on the set.  According to Sugarless’ Production Controller Naresh, Sudhakar was with his makeup artist and was prepping for the shoot when he suddenly collapsed. The shoot was taking place in Bannerghatta and he was rushed to Fortis Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.  Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce President DR Jairaj, said that Rockline Sudhakar had tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection three months ago. He was admitted to the hospital and had recovered from the infection. Rockline Sudhakar had had a heart surgery prior to getting COVID-19. “He had an existing heart condition and the doctors said that he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was brought dead to the hospital. He acted in so many films and may his soul rest in peace,” Jairaj said.  Sudhakar entered the world of Kannada entertainment when he started working as the driver to film producer Rockline Venkatesh. Jairaj says that Sudhakar would drive Venkatesh to the set of the Kannada TV serial Ashavadigalu. He was introduced to several people in the film industry in the late 1980s including Sihi Kahi Chandru and actor Malashree. His debut was in a side role in Malashree’s film Belli Modagalu in 1992.  Sudhakar was later pulled into the world of production by Rockline Venkatesh. When Venkatesh started Rockline Productions, he tapped Sudhakar to be the production controller. Sudhakar worked as the production controller for 36 films produced by Rockline Productions including Aayudha, Agni IPS, Himapaati and Rasika, thereby gaining the moniker Rockline Sudhakar. “He was a trusted associate of Rockline Venkatesh. If anyone wanted to get in touch with Venkatesh, they would have had to first meet Sudhakar,” KFCC President Jairaj recounted.  Rockline Sudhakar has acted in over 200 movies in his career. However, until 2010, most of the roles he played were smaller, yet significant ones. Some of his films include Dakota Picture, Pancharangi, Paramathma, Topiwala, Vaastu Prakara, Mukunda Murari, Prema Geema Jane Do, Devarantha Manushya, Bhootayyana Mommaga Ayyu, Ayyo Rama, Mr and Mrs Ramachari and Love In Mandya.

Bengaluru metro services to be partially affected on Sunday, Monday

Transport
Normal services will be restored starting from Tuesday morning.
Metro train in Bengaluru
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has announced that metro services in Bengaluru will be partially affected on the green line for Sunday (September 27) and Monday (September 28) between RV Road to Yelachenahalli. The services will be affected in this stretch as the BMRCL will carry out testing work for the soon to be commissioned Yelachenahalli to Anjanapura line. Normal services will be restored from Tuesday morning. In a statement, the BMRCL said, “In connection with the pre-commissioning works and testing of systems on the southern extension of Green Line from Yelachenahalli to Anjanapura Metro Stations, train services between RV Road to Yelachenahalli Stations of Green Line will be closed on Sunday, September 27, 2020 and Monday, September 28, 2020. Consequently, metro train services will be available only between Nagasandra and RV Road Stations from 7 am to 9 pm on September 27, 2020 and September 28, 2020. Normal Service on the Green Line up to Yelachenahalli will resume on the morning of September 29, 2020 at 7 am.” Train services in the purple line (Myuru Road-Byappanahalli) line will remain unaffected and will run normally. This comes after the BMRCL had already carried out a trial run of the metro route between Yelachenahalli and Anjanapura starting from the last week of August. This six-kilometre extension to the existing green line is part of the second phase of the Namma Metro project in Bengaluru which has been marred with delays, like the first phase of Namma Metro. The initial deadline was 2018, and before the pandemic, the BMRCL had aimed to open the line for public use by August 2020. As has been reported, services in the elevated section of the Yelachenahalli–Anjanapura line will be up and running on November 1 now, which is also the state formation day, Karnataka Rajyotsava. The route will have five stops: Anjanapura Road Cross, Krishnaleela Park (ISKON), Vajarahalli, Talaghattapura and Anjanapura Township.

Don’t share my release info to third parties, VK Sasikala tells Bengaluru prison officials

RTI
Sasikala wrote the letter after the prison authorities had replied to an RTI application related to Sasikala's date of release.
VK Sasikala
VK Sasikala, aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, has written to the authorities of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison requesting them not to provide any information to third parties regarding her release. Sasikala said that it was an invasion of her right to privacy and also said that there were precedents regarding sharing information related to prisoner release under the Right to Information Act. "The said third parties file such applications for certain reasons to gain publicity, political vendetta etc," Sasikala's letter states.  Sasikala's advocate sent the letter to the Chief Superintendent of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after a Bengaluru-based lawyer had received a reply to an RTI application he had filed with the jail authorities. The reply to the RTI had stated that Sasikala is likely to be released on January 27, 2021.  "In a similar matter, Ved Prakash Arvyas, certain applications had sought information under RTI Act about the prisoner in Tihar Jail. The public information officer had denied to provide such information stating that details about under-trial prisoners or convicts were personal and revelation of such information is barred under section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act," Sasikala's letter to the Chief Superintendent of the prison reads.  According to section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act, information which relates to personal information, and the disclosure of which has no relationship to any public activity or interest, or which would cause unwarranted invasion of the privacy of the individual cannot be provided by the public information officer.  Sasikala further stated that the Central Information Commission had also agreed to this stance on providing information related to prisoners and had upheld the public information officer's decision in connection with Ved Prakash Arvyas' case. The Chief Information Officer had cited the Supreme Court judgement on Right To Privacy while declining to provide information to the RTI application too.  "Hence, I kindly request your office not to entertain any application of third parties under the Right to Information Act seeking information related to my imprisonment, date of release, and other details and thus render justice," the letter reads. Although Sasikala's release date is on January 27, 2021, this date may be deferred by a year, to February 2022, if Sasikala chooses to not pay the in-default fine as ordered by the court. Further, the date may also vary if Sasikala chooses to apply for further parole, TNM had earlier reported. The Supreme Court of India overruled the Karnataka High Court verdict in February 2017 and convicted Sasikala, and other co-accused, who were awarded four years' imprisonment and Rs 10 crore fine. ASHA workers stage fresh protests in Bengaluru, seek payment of pending wages

Protest
ASHA workers have been demanding a fixed monthly honorarium and the payment of wages that have been pending since July.
Over 500 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers from Karnataka held a protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Wednesday demanding a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 12000 and to release pending wages of workers. In July, the workers called off their plans of staging a 20-day strike, following assurances from Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu that their demands for a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs 12,000 will be considered. However, as their demands have not been met for the past two months, and their wages have been pending since July, the workers took to the streets to stage protests. ASHA workers in Karnataka reported that they were restricted by police officials from travelling to Bengaluru from different parts of the state to hold the protest. The ASHA Union in Karnataka shared visuals of police preventing ASHA workers from joining the protest in Bengaluru by stopping buses arranged by the workers.  "The government has remained silent to all the sound and cries of the ASHA workers, and shockingly has resorted to strike their force upon the ASHAs by restricting them from coming here which is utterly condemnable," D Nagalaskhmi, State Secretary of the ASHA Union in Karnataka said.  Nagalakshmi said some ASHA workers were forcefully sent back by the police. Despite this, over 500 ASHA workers gathered at Freedom Park in Bengaluru to register their protest against the state government.  Later in the day, the protesting workers met Health Minister B Sriramulu and were assured that a meeting will be held with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday. Dr Rajkumar, State Deputy Director, Maternal Health, and Dr Omprakash Patil, Director, Health Department, were also present at the site of the protest and ensured that the pending wages, including the incentives for COVID-19 will be deposited within 15 days. ASHA workers have also asked the state government to provide PPE kits and safety equipment periodically.  ASHA workers have been playing a key role amid the outbreak of COVID-19 cases in India. The workers, who are trained to be the interface between the community and the public, have been going door-to-door spreading awareness and collecting information about the symptoms of people.

In a major development, the Bengaluru Police on Wednesday suspended two policemen for allegedly leaking crucial information related to the Sandalwood drugs case. The suspended policemen are Assistant Commissioner of Police MR Mudhavi and Head Constable Mallikarjuna, who are attached to the women's protection wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB). According to Joint Commissioner (Crime) Sandeep Patil, "The CCB suspected that crucial information related to the Sandalwood drugs case was being leaked. We ordered an internal inquiry, in which concrete evidence was found against these two persons. Hence, they were suspended." According to Patil, though the two suspended cops did not belong to the core investigation team probing the Sandalwood drugs case, they started leaking crucial information to the close associates of the accused persons. "This is not only a breach of trust, but also amounts to an abuse of power on the part of Mudhavi," a note released by the CCB said. Patil had recommended the suspension of Mudhavi to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, who ratified it. Earlier in the day, the CCB had questioned noted Kannada actor Diganth in connection with the case. This is the second time that Diganth has been summoned by the CCB in the last one week. He was earlier questioned along with his wife and actor Aindrita Ray. The CCB grilled him for more than three hours. "I know my conscience is clear. I do not have to worry about anything. Whatever I know I have told them (the police). If they call me again, I don't mind coming like I have done on two occasions," Diganth told the media after his interrogation. He added that the CCB has returned his phones which were seized during his last visit. "I have got my phones back," he said.
