A Bengaluru resident ran over a stray dog with a car earlier this week, in what seems to be a shocking incident of animal cruelty that was caught on camera. Taking to social media, Neelam Jit Kaur, a resident of Pille Gowda Layout in Ramachandrapura, alleged that the incident was deliberate and took place as she was feeding the stray dogs near her home, much to the displeasure of local residents. The CCTV footage of the incident shows the car seemingly slowing down and swerving slightly to the right, before it's front wheels run over a dog. It stops for a moment, only to go ahead again and ensure that the rear wheels of the vehicle also go over the animal. The dog is seen twisting in pain even as other strays come running to the spot. In her post, Neelam, a stylist in a beauty salon, said that the incident took place at around 10.30 am on October 2, when she was at work. "I started feeding stray dogs after I lost my pet due to a tumour about two years ago and have been feeding all the strays in my area in the morning and in the evening since then," she wrote. She accused a neighbour, Kiran S, who lives opposite her house, of deliberately running over the dog. "(Kiran) as well as others in the neighbourhood have been continuously fighting with me over this. He deliberately ran over this poor, innocent, loving dog while he was lying by the side of the road in the lane next to my house where I feed five dogs daily," Neelam said. "When I returned from work and went to feed the dogs at night, I found the poor dog writhing in agony…imagine, no one had bothered to take him to a doctor since morning," she added, stating that she rushed the dog to a hospital and treatment began at around 11.30 pm. Neelam has also appealed to the public to come forward and help her with costs for treatment of the dog, as it would require a surgery. "Please come forward to help me clear the bills and to save the poor dog's life," she appealed. Meanwhile, a complaint was filed with the Vidyaranyapura police station and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered. "Please come forward to help me and the dog. The dog is stable now but has a low oxygen level and is breathing with difficulty. It is taking short breaths, and breathing through his mouth as his lungs are not taking full oxygen," Neelam wrote.

DK Shivakumar’s residence in Bengaluru searched by CBI

CBI searches
Congress called the searches “an insidious game of intimidation and machinations of Modi-Yeddyurappa”.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday started a search and seizure operation at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar and his brother DK Suresh’s residences in Bengaluru and Kanakapura along with 15 other properties belonging to the brothers. The CBI procured a warrant from the CBI Special Court judge late on Sunday evening. The search and seizure operation began at DK Shivakumar and his brother’s residence at 6 am on Monday. Along with the Sadashivanagar residence of DK Shivakumar, two residences of his brother and Congress MP DK Suresh too are being searched by a team of CBI officials. A team of police personnel from Bengaluru Police were deployed at all the residences for security.  CBI SP Thomson Jose led the search operation on Monday. Sources said that around 60 sleuths are currently searching 15 other properties the prophets own.  Several of Shivakumar’s places of business were also searched on Monday. Sources indicate that several business associates and relatives of the DK brothers too could come under the CBI scanner.  Sources said that the CBI probe comes in the wake of the Enforcement Directorate’s probe into alleged money laundering perpetrated by DK Shivakumar. Sources indicated that the CBI will register an FIR against Shivakumar under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Sources said that the search operation comes in the wake of the CBI’s probe into alleged hawala transactions between DK Shivakumar and his co-brother Shashi Kumar. On September 8, the Karnataka High Court had dismissed the plea filed by Shashi Kumar, who had moved the court stating that the Karnataka government could not make him a party to the CBI probe as he was a Union government employee.  The Enforcement Directorate in its report to the CBI in September 2019, had stated that Shashi Kumar, chief manager at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, was involved in property transactions on DK Shivakumar’s behalf. ED sources said that since it is only a probing agency, the CBI had to register a case against Shivakumar. The source conveyed that during its probe in 2019, the sleuths found that several members involved in the case were government officials. Therefore it had submitted its report to the state government. The Advocate General has given the go ahead for the CBI to probe the case on September 25, 2019.  Sources said that the CBI is looking into alleged benamis created by Shivakumar and his brother in land-related transactions in Bengaluru and Ramanagara. The CBI’s allegation is that the brothers used their relatives as benamis to allegedly launder money procured through corruption.  The raids are being conducted at a time when campaigning for the bypolls for two Assembly constituencies are in Karnataka. Supporters of DK Shivakumar have already started gathering outside his residence to show their support as news of the raids spread.  Congress leaders have alleged a political motive behind the raids and are attacking the state and Union Government led by the BJP.  "@BJP4India has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics & mislead public attention. The latest CBI raid on @KPCCPresident @DKShivakumar's house is another attempt to derail our preparation for bypolls. I strongly condemn this," Siddaramaiah said. .@BJP4India has always tried to indulge in vindictive politics & mislead public attention. A team of Mumbai police officials posed as food delivery boys at an upscale housing complex in Bengaluru to arrest a 23-year-old man accused of raping, filming and extorting Rs 5 lakh from a Mumbai woman.  A 22-year-old woman who works at a gym in Mumbai filed a police complaint in August following which the police registered an FIR in the case.  At the end of August, police officers from JJ Marg police station in Mumbai who were investigating the case, learnt that the accused was staying in Bengaluru with a woman. To avoid suspicion at the gated society he was living in, the police came up with a plan to enter as food delivery boys. Police learnt from his call records that he frequently ordered food from a food delivery app.  The Indian Express reported that the police ordered food from the same app when they found the accused doing it and then entered the gated society and his apartment after seeking permission from the accused person.  He was produced before a court in Bengaluru and was later sent to Mumbai on a transit remand. The woman met the accused Mohammed Shaukat in Mumbai in 2017 through the social media platform Snapchat. The accused, who claimed to be a footballer from Punjab, was in the city to receive treatment for a thigh injury.  The woman accused the man of tricking her into visiting his hotel, where he allegedly raped her and made a video of the act, Times of India reported.  In her complaint, the woman said he had promised to marry her but a day later, he sent her the video threatening to upload it on social media. The woman accused him of blackmailing her for money, the police said.  Police said the accused kept taking cash from the woman before the lockdown was imposed in March this year following which she was forced to transfer money to his bank account. Starting from December 2019, the accused managed to take Rs 5 lakh, the complainant said. She approached the police when the demands did not stop.  Police registered a case of rape, cheating, assault, criminal intimidation and extortion under the Indian Penal Code and IT Act.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy criticised the state government's decision to allot 32 acres of land on Bengaluru University campus to three institutions including Yoga University and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Kumaraswamy urged the state government to withdraw its decision immediately. “The decision to allot 32 acres, including 15 acres each to Yoga University and Gulbarga University and 2 acres to the CBSE for its south India office, will turn the Bangalore University campus into a concrete jungle. The State government should allot land to these institutions elsewhere and protect the biodiversity park.” Trees were planted in the Bangalore University's Jnana Bharati campus two decades ago and it is considered a biodiversity park.  “For almost two decades, environment experts have made efforts to develop the biodiversity park. The government's unilateral decision that was taken without any consultation is dangerous and will destroy the park,” the former Chief Minister said in a series of tweets on Sunday. He further said, “Senior environmentalist Yellappa Reddy has returned the honorary degree in protest against this decision. Other environmentalists have supported too.” 1/7 — H D Kumaraswamy (@hd_kumaraswamy) October 4, 2020 Yellappa Reddy was awarded the doctorate in 2009 for his contribition towards developing the biodiversity park in the campus. This land was leased out to CBSE’s southern centre, Central University of Karnataka, Gulbarga and the Inter University Centre for Yogic Sciences. Kumaraswamy pointed out that the bio-diversity park was supporting the research work of hundreds of students enrolled in courses including botany, biology, environment sciences and social sciences.
