Devanahalli woman rescued from well
A 22-year-old woman survived a fall into a deep well and was rescued three days after she was pushed into the well by a man who attempted to kill her in Bengaluru Rural district of Karnataka. The woman hails from Malur in Kolar district and had come to Devanahalli in Bengaluru Rural district by bus to meet a man - Adarsh (22) - she had befriended on the social media application Instagram a month ago. Adarsh received her in Devanahalli at 5:30 pm and took her to a farmhouse in A Ranganathapura, a village in the district, on his two-wheeler. According to the police, Adarsh expressed his desire to marry the woman but when she rejected his proposal, he pushed the woman into the well and fled the spot around 7:30 pm. The woman in her complaint to the police after she was rescued said that Adarsh threatened to kill her if she didn't marry him and pushed her into the well with the intention of killing her. Close to three days after she was pushed into the well, residents in the village heard her screaming from the well on Tuesday afternoon and informed the police. A crane arrived at the well and rescued the woman from the well. She was dehydrated and had a pain in her arm, Vijayapura police station sub-inspector Manjunath told TNM. She was taken to a hospital nearby to receive treatment for the injuries she sustained. "After we were informed by the residents that there was a woman in the well, we rushed to get a crane and rescue her. The well was very deep, almost 60 feet, and it seems like the bushes in the dry well saved her. She is also a young woman and she has managed to survive inside the well for almost three days," Manjunath added. Adarsh has been arrested.

A few cinema halls reopened in Bengaluru on Thursday after a gap of 7 months with some film enthusiasts venturing warily to watch films amid a slew of restrictions imposed on multiplexes and theatres. Most cinema halls in the city remained closed despite the relaxation of rules. A few cinema halls including Sharada Theatre reopened with 50% seating capacity but saw few visitors trickle in during the day. A report stated that a fraction of the avaialble tickets were sold for the morning show on Thursday. In and around the city's Majestic area, single-screen theatres remained shut. Among multiplexes, six out of 16 PVR cinemas in the city will be open for the public on Friday. This includes the PVR Cinemas at Orion Mall, Vega City Mall, Orion Uptown, GT World Mall, Park Square Mall and Vaishnavi Sapphire Mall, Deccan Herald reported. The decision to open on Friday was taken with the expectation of a crowd building during the weekend. "We are starting only on Friday. So far as I know, all the cinema halls are going to open on Friday as per the decision taken by the cinema hall owners and managers at a meeting on Wednesday," Prakash, the manager of Veeresh Theatre on Magadi Road told PTI. Apart from physical distancing rules and 50% seating capacity, theatre owners have been directed to maintain sufficient time gap between the screening of two movies in the same hall. Mysuru’s tourist spots will remain closed during Dasara

This year, Dasara festivities will be held between October 17-26, the last day being Vijayadashami.
Mysuru Palace
Tourist spots in and around Mysuru in Karnataka would remain shut from October 17 to November 1 to restrict the entry of visitors to the city during the Dasara festival and contain the spread of coronavirus, an official said. With Mysuru being the second worst-affected after Bengaluru in the state by the pandemic, the world-famous Dasara fest, including the victory parade to mark the triumph of good over evil on Vijayadashmi day (October 26), will be confined to the Amba Vilas Royal Palace in the city center to avoid crowds. "Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri has ordered the closure of all tourist spots in and around the city for 15 days from October 17 when the 10-day Dasara fest begins under COVID-induced restrictions, to dissuade tourists from thronging the city of palaces," a district official said on Thursday. The entry of visitors to the palace of the Wodeyar dynasty will also be restricted during the ban period as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to prevent large gatherings in public places, said the official. Celebrated as "Naada Habba" (state festival), the 10-day event every year showcases Karnataka's cultural heritage resplendent with folk art forms, and attracts large crowds and tourists to Mysuru. This year, Dasara festivities will be held between October 17-26, the last day being Vijayadashami. Some of the prominent tourist spots in the city are the royal palaces, Jayachamarajendra art gallery, Mysuru zoo and the Chamundeshwari temple atop the hill on the outskirts. Brindavan Gardens, Nimishambha and Sri Ranganathaswamy temples, Tipu Palace, Kokkarebellur and Rangantittu bird sanctuaries in adjacent Mandya district will also be out of bounds for visitors amid the virus scare. Around 10 lakh people from across the country and the world visit Mysuru during the Dasara and Diwali festivals every year to witness the caparisoned elephants procession from the royal palace to Bannimantap grounds across the city for the torchlight parade as the grand finale of the 10-day fete. "Even the people in the city have been advised to celebrate the festival at home and watch the Dasara religious and cultural programmes on television, as they will be telecast live from the palace grounds. About 300 people only will be allowed to witness the events at the venue (Amba Vilas Palace)," said the official The grand fest (Naada Habba) will begin on Saturday at the Chamundeshwari temple. It will be formally inaugurated by the Bengaluru-based state-run Jayadeva Heart Hospital director CN Manjunath in the presence of the Wodeyar family and the invited dignitaries. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will review the COVID-19 situation in the city on Friday and attend the Dasara fest inauguration on Saturday morning. Bengaluru violence: Chargesheet says political rivalry within Congress led to riots

Bengaluru Riots
According to the chargesheet by the Central Crime Branch, the riot was planned months in advance and that the accused members took advantage of a Facebook post on August 11.

Outisde DJ Halli Police Station, Bengaluru
The chargesheet by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in the investigation into the riots has highlighted that a political rivalry between a former Bengaluru mayor, a former councillor and MLA R Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy, led to the violence on August 11. The chargesheet names Sampath Raj, a former Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) mayor from the Congress, his personal assistant Arun, car driver Santhosh, Mujahid Khan, and former Pulakeshinagar councillor Abdul Rakhib Zakir. It stated that a closed group of people, which included the accused members, allegedly planned an attack on the residence of MLA Akhand Srinivasa Murthy by asking Mujahid Khan to instigate members of the Muslim community to turn against the MLA.  The chargesheet stated that the attack was planned months in advance and that the accused members took advantage of the situation on August 11 — an alleged offensive Facebook post.  A violent mob launched simultaneous attacks on the police station at DJ Halli and the residence and office of MLA R Akhand Srinivasa Murthy in Kaval Byrasandra in Bengaluru on the night of August 11. The mob was angered by a Facebook comment made by P Naveen, a relative of Akhand Srinivasa Murthy, which was deemed offensive to Muslims. The mob was also angered by the police's refusal to register an FIR immediately in the case. The violence, which started on the night of August 11, was brought under control around 1 am on August 12 after the police opened fire to quell the mob, killing three people by gunshot.  What the chargesheet says  Akhand Srinivasa Murthy was among seven rebel JD(S) MLAs who had joined the Congress on March 25, 2018, ahead of the state Assembly elections. The CCB chargesheet said that Sampath Raj was an aspirant for the Congress ticket from Pulakeshinagar Assembly constituency but the party decided to go with Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy. Sampath Raj instead contested as the party candidate from CV Raman Nagar Assembly constituency but lost.  According to the police, three months ago, Sampath Raj and his associates had hatched a plot and held a meeting at Haseena Hall within DJ Halli police station limits. "To cause a commotion by instigating Muslims, some of the accused used to hold meetings often. They got an opportunity when Murthy's nephew Naveen made an objectionable social media post," stated the chargesheet. ‘A conspiracy against Congress’ Earlier on Thursday, the Congress rejected police's attribution of internal party rivalry to the attack on its MLA Srinivas Murthy's house during the violence. Blaming the government for the incident, KPCC President DK Shivakumar said allegations were part of the conspiracy against his party and accused the police of acting as agents of the ruling BJP. Along with the CCB, even the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating the case. On Monday and Tuesday, the agency summoned two Congress leaders, Rizwan Arshad and Zameer Ahmed Khan. NIA summons Congress MLAs The two MLAs were called to DJ Halli on the night of the mob violence to defuse the situation and it was when they addressed the media close to the DJ Halli police station around 1 am on August 12, it was made clear that the situation was under control.  "Senior officers asked us to come to the station to defuse the situation on the night of the incident. The police commissioner in his report has said that we reached the spot to help bring the situation under control. We informed the NIA what we saw," Rizwan Arshad told TNM.  Sources said that the NIA was also probing the political rivalry within the Congress. Akhand Srinivasa Murthy's supporters called for Sampath Raj's arrest in a protest held on Tuesday at Peiyar Circle in Bengaluru.  Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai called for the Congress to answer the questions posed by an MLA from their own party - Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy. "Thorough investigation has been done and therefore they are named in the chargesheet. They (Congress) know that this has happened due to internal differences of the party in collaboration with SDPI officials. They have to answer the questions posed by their own MLA," Basavaraj Bommai said.   The CCB is focusing its investigation on the attack on the residence of MLA R Akhand Srinivasa Murthy while the Bengaluru police's east division is investigating the 72 FIRs (first information report) registered at the DJ Halli and KG Halli police station. The NIA is also investigating the case. A total of 421 accused persons, including many residents of DJ Halli and KG Halli, were arrested in the days after the violence. Two main FIRs registered in the case invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against 163 accused persons. Police officials said this is the largest number of people charged under the act in a single case in Karnataka.

A bar owner in Bengaluru, Manish Shetty, was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside the establishment on Rest House Road in Bengaluru’s Central Business District. The incident reportedly took place around 9 pm on Thursday and Manish, who is the owner of Duet Bar in Bengaluru, was declared dead at a private hospital just minutes after he was shot.  Police said that the assailants allegedly stabbed Manish Shetty before shooting him with a double-barreled gun and then speeding away. According to the police, Manish was standing outside Duet Bar on Thursday night when he was allegedly hacked up with machetes and then later shot at. Police said that Manish Shetty was hacked on his head four times. The police suspect that Manish, who was associated with gangster Ravi Pujari, may have been targeted by his rivals.  According to the Cubbon Park police, two men on a bike rode by and one of them shot at Manish at point-blank range once. “Only one bullet was fired and he was also hacked up with machetes on his head. The head injuries seemed to have been fatal,” an investigating officer told TNM.  Manish was immediately rushed to Mallya Hospital after he was shot. He was declared brought dead, the police said.  Manish hailed from Koppa in Chikkamagaluru and has several cases registered against him in Dakshina Kannada district as well as in Mumbai, including an attempt to murder case, police sources told TNM. He also was registered as a rowdy sheeter in Mangaluru, they added. He is known to be close to underworld don Ravi Pujari, who was nabbed by the Bengaluru police earlier in February and an investigation against him is currently underway, the source confirmed.  Police said that Manish Shetty had been in and out of prison several times before this, and was also allegedly the mastermind of several jewel heists in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The police said that Manish Shetty was the mastermind of the jewellery heist at Chemmanur Jewellers in Bengaluru in 2006.  Manish Shetty hatched the plot to steal the jewels when he was lodged in the Nashik prison in connection with another jewel heist case. In early 2000s, after being accused of looting jewels at Tata Pearls in Hyderabad, where jewellery worth Rs 10 crore was stolen. He moved to Belagavi and set up a tea stall outside a police station. However, a team of Hyderabad and Mumbai police officials nabbed him and he spent several years at the Nashik prison. He allegedly hatched a plot to conduct the heist in Bengaluru while he was in Nashik jail. In 2015, Manish Shetty was allegedly involved in a bank robbery in Belagavi at the Chennammanagar branch of State Bank of India, where Rs 8,00,000 was allegedly stolen by armed assailants. The Cubbon Park police have formed a team to investigate the incident and are looking at CCTV footage from the neighbouring establishments to nab the assailants.
