The first look of Sanjay Dutt as Adheera was released on the occasion of his birthday. The makers revealed that the look of Adheera was heavily inspired by the Vikings. In an interview with Cinema Express, Prashant Neel has opened up about how Sanjay Dutt helped design the character of Adheera. “We wanted to show the actor menacingly, and we decided to go with a Viking look. Sanjay sir has put a lot of effort and thought into it personally. His input has been huge,” said Prashanth. The character of Adheera was never revealed in KGF: Chapter 1. The character's identity remained unknown until the end of the film. In a relief to commuters in and around Bengaluru, the South Western Railway (SWR) would resume suburban train services from December 7 after suspending them for over eight months to contain the Covid pandemic, an official said on Thursday. "The railway board has permitted our zone to operate 10 pairs of suburban trains from Bengaluru to Hosur, Tumakuru, Marikuppam, Bangarpet Hindupur and Hassan, which are within 180km range, SWR official C Narendra told IANS. The service for six days in a week except on Sunday will be operated as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the standard operating procedure of the Union Health Ministry to prevent the virus spread. "Besides wearing a mask, commuters have to maintain physical distancing on the platform and in the coach where they have to reserve a seat for travelling and sanitise their hands. They will be screened at the entrance of the station to ensure they are free from the virus," said Narendra. Hosur is across the border in Tamil Nadu and Hindupur is in Andhra Pradesh, while Tumakuru, Bangarpet and Hassan are in Karnataka. Service to and from Hassan, Hindupur, Hosur and Tumakuru will operate from Yesvantpur station in the city's northern suburb, while service to Marikuppan and Bangarpet will be to and from Bengaluru main city station. "Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (DEMU) and Mainline Electrical Unit (MEMU) cars will be used for the services on the suburban routes," said the official. The trains will halt at all stations en-route for the benefit of passengers who commute between Bengaluru and their home towns for work or living. "Commuters without reserved tickets will not be allowed to use the service to avoid crowding the coaches and maintain social distancing," added Narendra. The zonal railway has been operating daily suburban service between Bengaluru and Mysuru since mid-May after the Covid-induced extended lockdown was partially lifted. The frequency of the service will be increased in commensurate with the commuters' response, as only 50 per cent of the seats will be allowed to be reserved and occupied for travelling.

In a tragedy that unfolded in Raichur district of Karnataka, a 10-year-old boy was killed and devoured by a crocodile as he went near the Krishna river’s shore to drink water on Wednesday afternoon. While the incident took place on Wednesday, the boy’s torso was only found at the spot on Thursday, reported the Times of India. The victim has been identified as Mallikarjun R, who was herding cattle along with others in D Rapura village. The report said that as schools across the state remain shut due to the pandemic, the children were being made to herd cattle for long hours.  As the crocodile grabbed Mallikarjun away, the other children who were with him called for help, but it was too late. Even before the police arrived, locals tried to look for him in their coracles. Police have registered a case in Yapaldinni Police Station. The TOI report quoted one local, MD Rafi, who said that a part of the river near the village has six crocodiles and usually the children do not go near the river, except for drinking water. He added that the low water levels at this time of the year made it easy for the animal to take the child away. Although rare, humans being attacked by crocodiles are not unheard of in the state. In December, 2018 a similar incident of a crocodile pulling a man into the water from the shore was reported. That time fortunately, the man in Karantaka’s Uttara Kannada district’s Dandeli had survived the mishap. Nagesh Eshwar Ballarie was attacked by a crocodile at Kali river when he had gone to the river with his wife and son.

Workers of Toyota plant near Bengaluru to resume strike

Labour Rights
The Bidadi unit has been in a lockout since November 10 after 41 workers were suspended for allegedly questioning the management.
Workers at the Toyota plant in Bidadi will resyume their strike
The factory workers at the Bidadi unit of Toyota Kirloskar Private Limited, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, announced that they will continue their ongoing strike as their concerns over increased workload, among others, remain unaddressed. At a press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday, the Toyota Kirloskar Motor Employees Union (TKMEU) said that the Karnataka government’s intervention failed to acknowledge the grievances faced by the workers. The factory has been in a lockout since November 10 after the treasurer of TKMEU was suspended for allegedly questioning the management.  According to the union, the current protest stems from the sudden decision by the management to increase the workload without any scientific study, consultation or discussion with the union. The management had communicated with the workers that they will have to assemble 1,00,000 cars per year from 80,000 cars per year. The union said that days before the new system was to be put in a place, the management started treating the workers inhumanly without providing enough time to drink water, use the washroom and slashing pay citing lost productivity.  The union in their statement said that when this was questioned by the treasurer of the TKMEU, he immediately got suspended and when workers protested this during the break, 40 more were placed under suspension. Subsequently, a lockout was declared the next day though there was no strike. The union further alleged that on November 18, when the government issued a notification prohibiting continuance of strike and the lockout, the employees were ready to report to work but the management did not allow them, citing “reporting late”. They alleged that the management has been insisting workers to sign an undertaking to commit to giving the required production and “maintain discipline” both inside and outside the factory premises. This, they said, resulted in the present stalemate. The union said that asking for an undertaking even after the government banned the lockout, indicated the disregard of the management towards the government as well as the incapability of the government. “Once the government asked us to report for work, we did. Now if they are asking for an undertaking like this, it only means that they are continuing the lockout, without calling it one. This is completely illegal but the government has done nothing about it,” said Basavaraj Havaldar, a TKMEU office bearer. The Joint Committee of Trade Unions (JCTU), which is a joint body of several trade unions, also supported the Bidadi unit workers and threatened to expand the strike to other factories in the area and even in parts of Bengaluru, if the government doesn’t take immediate action against the management. “Unlike other times, where we see economic demands in strikes, this strike is for ethical, moral and humanitarian grounds. We are here to express that the entire working class of Karnataka stands with these workers of TKMEU and support their cause,” said KV Bhat, State Convenor of JCTU and Vice President of AITUC Karnataka.

‘Will bring stronger anti-cow slaughter bill’: Karnataka Minister to TNM

Politics
Prabhu Chauhan who is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, told TNM that he is studying how Karnataka can make the existing law against cow slaughter more stringent.
Karnataka minister for Animal Husbandry Prabhu Chauhan met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath on Thursday and had a meeting regarding the state’s anti-cattle slaughter law. Chauhan who is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, told TNM that he is studying how Karnataka can make the existing law against cow slaughter more stringent. “I have come to Uttar Pradesh and will be visiting Gujarat to study their model of the anti-cow slaughter bill to ensure that in the upcoming Winter session of Karnataka assembly. I had a long and fruitful meeting with the UP CM and he expressed his happiness that Katnataka too will bring in a stringent law against cow slaughter.  We will bring in the first of its kind historic bill in the state. We are doing this for animal protection. I will return to Bangalore on 4 December and by seventh of this month I will table the bill,” Chauhan told TNM. Karnataka already has an law against cow slaughter--Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964.--but the BJP had attempted to strengthen it in their previous tenure as well. While it was passed in the Assembly, the then Union Government under UPA 2 had rejected the bill and the consequent Siddaramiah-led Congress Government had withdrawn the bill. Chauhan said that the current government intends to bring more animals under the ambit of definition of cattle, impose a blanket ban on their slaughter and also impose heftier fines for violation. “The existing bill is from 1964 and not strong enough. I do not want to divulge more without studying. I am here to study steps to control cow slaughter, what cattle to include etc. I visited several Gau Shalas and met with several officials as well,” Chauhan added. The proposed bill has already found resistance with the Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah already announcing an agitation against it in the Assembly as well as on streets. But Chauhan said that will not deter the government.  “As Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah will do his job to try to stop the bill but we will do our job. We have declared that we will bring a stronger anti-cow slaughter bill. In 2010 we had cleared a similar bill but the then Congress government at the Centre had made excuses to return the bill and not approve it. Now that our government is in power in keeping with the wishes of the people particularly Hindus and seers we will go ahead and bring in a law what can the opposition do? At most they can boycott the assembly and walk out and in that time we will ensure we pass the bill,” Chauhan said as he travels to Gujarat to study their model of the law.
