Former Karnataka Minister and Congress MLA BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan suffered a mild heart attack on Sunday after he was admitted to Bengaluru’s Vikram Hospital on Saturday night.  Staff at the hospital said that his condition is presently stable following a minor surgery and he might be discharged on Monday. A formal statement from the hospital is awaited. According to his staff, the 53-year-old complained of severe chest pain in the morning and was subsequently rushed to the hospital on Saturday night. Zameer who was formerly with the JD(S) is seen as a man close to former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah. He had switched his allegiance to the Congress along with few other JD(S) MLAs ahead of a crucial Rajya Sabha election in 2016. He is the MLA of Chamrajpet Assembly constituency in Bengaluru. The four-time MLA was duly rewarded and given the portfolio of Food and Civil Supplies Department along with the post of Minority Welfare in the previous Congress-JD(S) government. He was incidentally a minister in the BJP-JD(S) government as well. According to political observers, Siddaramaiah had picked Zameer Khan to replace former Minister Roshan Baig as the pan-Karnataka Muslim face for the Congress. He had recently courted controversy after he was issued a notice by the Special Investigation Team for his alleged involvement in the IMA ponzi scheme along with Roshan Baig. He was subsequently quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after the case was transferred to them. Zameer, in his 2018 Assembly Election affidavit, had listed purchasing a property worth Rs 5 crore from IMA kingpin Mansoor Khan. He maintained that this was the only transaction he had with Mansoor Khan. Later Zameer was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case.
