Bengaluru police on Sunday arrested the assailant in the murder case of Ayyappa Dore, the former vice-chancellor of Alliance University. Ganesh (37), a serial offender, had played a central role in the murder, police officials said. The police, who had to open fire, managed to nab him eventually in the premises of the Karnataka State Seeds Corporation Limited (KSSCL)  in Hebbal.  “When we tracked him down to the Karnataka State Seeds Corporation Limited godown in Sanjay Nagar where he was hiding, he attacked two police personnel in an attempt to escape,” a senior police official told The Hindu. Ganesh is an associate of Suraj Singh, who works at Alliance University. He was allegedly hired by Chancellor Sudhir Angur to murder Ayyappa Dore and Madhukar Angur, Sudhir's brother, in a bid to take control in the university. Sudhir and Suraj were arrested soon after the murder by police officials.  “Ganesh was also responsible for arranging weapons. After attacking Ayyappa with lethal weapons, he stabbed him one last time to ensure that the job was done,” a senior police officer told Times of India. According to the police, Ganesh works at a tyre repair shop in Byatarayanapura and was promised Rs 20 lakh and a job at Alliance University for carrying out the murder.  Police said that when a team of officials tracked him down on Sunday, he was shot on his left leg after he attacked the police personnel.  The accused persons had studied the movements of Ayyappa Dore before carrying out the murder during his routine late-night walk after dinner. His body was found at a ground in RT Nagar near his residence the next day. Police officials have said that the murder was carried out to gain power in the university and that it was at the behest of Sudhir Angur.
